    Several years ago I read where Dave Landry says to let your 8 year old kid determine the trend for you. The kid looks at the starting point on the left edge, and then the ending point on the right edge, and draws a big line with a Crayola crayon. The kid then looks at the angle of the line. The kid would say you are doing something right.
